This place has been around and home to a wide variety of businesses. In 1894, it was a furniture and undertaker shop, because back then, the same guy did both. Lucky for us, there have been some happier businesses in the spot since then. In the early 1940's, it became Clay County Tavern and, later, the tavern added Shelby Bonding Service. Convenient to have both in one place, right? It stayed a tavern until the Bedinger family turned it into a furniture store again in 1966.
The Bell was born in the minds of a group of long-time friends in 2012. We knew the place we wanted to go and it didn't exist anywhere in town. We all have our own long histories in Liberty and wanted to see the place in our minds become a reality on the Square. When the Bedinger building became available, we knew it was the right spot. We like to think we have just returned the building to its roots as a saloon and tavern.
The Bell will be your favorite place to go. You'll find good food and beverages, including high end whiskeys and craft beers, and always the chance for great conversation. The menu and taps may change over time, but we hope you will always see an old friend, or meet someone new, and settle in to create your own history with them. Cheers!
